You need to understand before you decide to get yourself a bartending job that it is much different than you might have first thought. Tending bar is more than just a job.
For drinks that call for ice cubes, make sure they are small and firm. Some lawsuits have been filed and courts have found bar tenders guilty for continuing to serve alcohol to those that were obviously very drunk, so you have to always be aware. Bartending does require some knowledge because everyone doesn't drink the same beverage and bartenders interactions with the public may depend on the type of establishments.
It is very important to have knowledge of all sorts of drinks and have the ability to be very friendly with every kind of person that comes into your bar. And even more importantly for the finances, a good bartender should remember the names, faces and drinks of most of their regular customers. Each mixing station should contain the base spirits which are Vodka, Tequila, Gin and Rum.
Make it your priority in your interview to make the interview feel more like a conversation. It is these facts that make sure that its students can get great jobs because they have the hands on experience of bartending.
